Borders, Barriers, and Bridges: Navigating Trade Between Latam and the Indo-Pacific
Borders, Barriers, and Bridges was a dynamic evening event that brought together experts, emerging leaders and general public interested in exploring how Latin America and the Indo-Pacific, especially Australia, can build stronger trade, cultural, and diplomatic connections in a changing global environment. Hosted by ALELD and generously sponsored by Papelón, The Mexican Munchies, and Jarritos, the event combined engaging discussions with casual networking in a welcoming setting.
As global trade is increasingly shaped by political tensions, economic shifts, and changes in international partnerships, countries like Australia and those in Latin America are seeking new ways to work together. The panel discussion focused on understanding today’s trade landscape, identifying obstacles, and finding opportunities to build lasting, innovative relationships.
Panellists came from government, diplomacy, academia, and business, offering a range of insights on how trade and politics intersect. The panel also explored other areas beyond trade, like education, youth exchange, and technology, which help build people-to-people connections and long-term collaboration, focusing on governance, the economy, and cultural exchange
After the panel and Q&A, guests enjoyed a networking reception with food and drinks from Latin American businesses. It was a great chance for professionals, students, and community members to connect in an informal setting. This event supports ALELD’s wider goal: to grow the next generation of leaders who will strengthen cooperation between Latin America and Australia across economy, culture, governance, and innovation.
